Earliest political memory of the day #125

My first political memory was when I was about 8 years old. I came home and found my mum in the kitchen crying while listening to the radio. I asked her why she was crying – and she told me Princess Diana had died accidentally. I didn’t understand why she was so upset about a princess – I still thought Princesses were fictional in some way. She told me she was very sad because she loved Princess Diana – which confused me even more. I didn’t want her to be sad about something that seemed so distant. Now I realised how important that moment was.

Any thoughts?
